Hemingway called Valle Trebbia, where the medieval village Bobbio is located, "the most beautiful valley in the world". When you look out of the window of your lodging and see the valley, you will understand why he said this: Your gaze will wander over the arched Ponte Gobbo bridge and its sand-colored stone, to the leisurely meandering river Trebbia with its inviting beaches, and the gentle rise of the hills and mountains behind the village. It is the perfect place for a stress-free vacation, to slow down the speed of everyday life and forget about time. You can bathe in the river, try countless water sports, such as canoeing or kayaking, and enjoy long walks and hikes in the valleys and surrounding mountains.
There is a lot to discover in Bobbio itself, especially for art lovers and aesthetes. Visit the castle Malaspina dal Verme, the cathedral, or the abbey of San Colombano. You will find a wide selection of local delicacies in the small shops of the village. Wines, organic honey, the regional sausage specialty Coppa Piacentina, or handmade Maccheroni alla Bobbiese.
We highly recommend trying the mushrooms and truffles, collected by hand in the surrounding mountains. Almond sweets are also particularly popular in this region. The almond cake from here is famous, and local producers shape the regional almond brittle into the most creative forms.
Bobbio is one of the cultural centers of the valley, and hosts various events throughout the year. One of the cultural highlights is the Bobbio Film Festival, which takes place every year in July or August. It was launched by the director Marco Bellocchio, who grew up here.
